Thrown into a world
Where sight deceives

Creatures of eyes
Sought reprieve

Things that were known
Through the light of their gaze

Seemed as many
As the stars ablaze

They lived in peace
And loved to name

In a world they saw
Where nothing was ever the same

Yet among them
A loansome creature was born

With an eye turned inward
A monster in form

Cursed they said
The creature had been

For it could weep and love
All it had ever seen

Things it knew
Through the light of its gaze

Seemed to be many
Yet one and the same

So it lived in fear
And abhorred to name

A world it saw
That words could never claim

Then what was real
The creature could not tell

For the eye turned within
Had cast a morbid spell

The gift of sight
It did not now desire

Since all it saw
Mirrored its mire

It wandered far away
Searching for a cure

That would make the inward eye
See the outside lure

But the creature accursed
Could never forget

That the eye and the world
Had always met
